Nectar in a Sieve-Sulmdog Millionaire comparrison
Nectar in a Sieve and Slumdog Millionaire are very similar in many ways, and yet there are quite different. Nectar in a Sieve is about a woman, Rukmani, overcoming struggles such as having children, dealing with her anger on the inside, etc. Slumdog Millioanaire is about a young man, Jamal, that goes on the show "Who wants to be a Millionaire?" He wins ALL the money, and because of this, the people wonder how he knew all the answers. In the movie, there are short 5-10 minute "flashbacks" that he has from his life leading to how he knows the answers. Rukmani and Jamal are similar in which they both have/had extreme struggles and hardships in their lives. They are different though because Jamal has already overcome his problems, and Rukmani's are just begining. In my opinion, Slumdog Millionarie was WAY better than Nectar in a Sieve. It was more entertaining, and much more interesting.

Change #36
"Change" By Tracy Chapman
http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/t/tracy_chapman/change.html
If you knew that you would die today,
Saw the face of God and love,
Would you change?
Would you change?
If you knew that love can break your heart
When you're down so low you cannot fall
Would you change?
Would you change?
How bad, how good does it need to get?
How many losses? How much regret?
What chain reaction would cause an effect?
Makes you turn around,
Makes you try to explain,
Makes you forgive and forget,
Makes you change?
Makes you change?
If you knew that you would be alone,
Knowing right, being wrong,
Would you change?
Would you change?
If you knew that you would find a truth
That brings up pain that can't be soothed
Would you change?
Would you change?
How bad, how good does it need to get?
How many losses? How much regret?
What chain reaction would cause an effect?
Makes you turn around,
Makes you try to explain,
Makes you forgive and forget,
Makes you change?
Makes you change?
Are you so upright you can't be bent?
If it comes to blows are you so sure you won't be crawling?
If not for the good, why risk falling?
Why risk falling?
If everything you think you know,
Makes your life unbearable,
Would you change?
Would you change?
If you'd broken every rule and vow,
And hard times come to bring you down,
Would you change?
Would you change?
If you knew that you would die today,
If you saw the face of God and love,
Would you change?
Would you change?
Would you change?
Would you change?
If you saw the face of God and love
If you saw the face of God and love
Would you change?
Would you change?
"Change" By Tracy Chapman to be is about a woman telling a man what would happen is she cheated on him, and if he would change if things were different. Cheating happens alot in relationships, and sometimes the one cheating can learn to change, and sometimes they can't. I think that this song really gets to the core of how relationships as such would be. When she says "how bad, how good does it need to get? how many losses, how much regret?" I feel as though she is stating that how much worse can the relationship get, and how much regret are you going to have when shes gone.

Hope #35
"The Breath of New Hope" Sri Chinmoy
http://www.toptvbytes.com/index.aspx?pid=10072&SID=40125
Day and night I shall swim In the sweetness – hope – river.
May my mind every morning become
As beautiful as hope – dawn – rays
Peace begins
When expectation ends.
Each sacred hope
Is a blessingful gift
From Heaven’s heart.
Hope abides; therefore I abide.
Countless frustrations have not cowed me.
I am still alive, vibrant with life.
The black cloud will disappear,
The morning sun will appear once again
In all its supernal glory.
This poem is about Hope. In the text, hope is described as more of an object. Quote: "Each sacred hope is a blessingful girf from Heaven's heart." It is also said that because hope does something, that the poet does the same thing. Hope to me is like the wind: you can't see it, but you can feel it. When I feel hopefull, I feel like there are chances for something good to happen. Like when you HOPE to get a good grade, or you HOPE your best friends will stop fighting...You're wishing, praying things will get better and or happen in your favor. This is how I feel about hope.

"My Day" By Kidheir
<http://www.poems-and-quotes.com/life/poems.php?id=1110566>
As i pray on my knees
after a day of sini give myself t GOD
i pour over each word i speak
but no one stopped to listen to the words i preached
no one stopped to see what made this man cry
yet everyone spoke about love that grows
everyday i am on my knees begging GOD please
he saved me from tears when i was depressed
he raised me up when i fell to deep
he gave me strength when i was weak
he showed me the truth to spread love even when hate was the "it" thing
so as my soul strengthens
my soul feeds off this eternal love
GODS LOVEmy love fades our love fades
but GOD is lovethat is why i stand strong
i live day to day so when its my time
i can feel at home at the feet of my father in heaven
This poem is about praying to God. I like it because I am christian and I find it neccessary to pray every so often. It important to be close to God in my opinion. At church, we are taught that God loves you no mater what. Even if you cant see him or feel him, he is always there for you. He cares more than anyone and loves you more than anything. So pray to him when you are struggling or desperate for help. You never know just what may happen.

Gender Roles #33
"The Difference Between a Woman and a Man" By Josh Turner
http://www.metrolyrics.com/the-difference-between-a-woman-and-a-man-lyrics-josh-turner.html
You talk about your feeling
Sometimes I keep mine to myself
But that doesn't mean your foolish
And you know I don't want anybody else
And you can say I love you
Like hello and goodbye.
Well I don't say it very often
But you know I'll love you till the day I die
That's just the difference
Between a woman and a man
Thank god for that difference
When we both understand
A woman and a man
I turn on like a light bulb
You warm up like an iron
And you might take a little longer
But your into it just as strong as I am
That's just the difference
Between a woman and a man
Thank god for that difference
When we both understand
A woman and a man
A woman and a man
A woman and a man
This song shows the differences between men a woman and their roles in life. I like this song because it doesnt cut down one particular sex, but it shows the multiple differences in both. It describes that woman may show their love for someone more than a man. It also shows that woman may take a little longer to "warm up" then men. There are many differences a between men and women, but in the end, we all are the same, and I think this song portarys them quite well.

Culture Difference #32
ACHOLI LAND!
Okema Leonard, Uganda
http://poetry.wordpress.com/2005/10/19/leonard-okema-acholi-land/
Acholiland oh acholiland,
The once happy mother of proud warriors,
To you we wail,
For redemption from the fangs of terror,
The terror that bleeds us white,
The terror that siphons your blood
that runs in our veins,
Lambs without a shepherd we remain,
Driven away from you into the darkness,
Mama we yearn for an end to our misgivings,
Oh! Acholiland,
Do you hear us when we call out to you?
When our cries run our voices frail,
When wantons hunt us, your children down,
The harmony you taught us is no more,
Your children have learnt the little art of
unleashing terror,
Unfortunately on your very siblings,
Pain is all we feel and grim is what we see,
Blood is what we pay for being your children,
Oh! Mother, spread your wings and redeem
us, to rise and shine again.
This poem is about living in Uganda. I did a little research on Uganda as their lifestyle is the total opposite from ours. They all live in small huts and dont have alot. The people that live there though seem to be fairly content based on the circumstances. They have water and food to keep them stable. Even so though, I prefer my life to theres BY FAR. I love my life and the way I live.

Over coming struggles/Facing a difficulty
"Mourning is Over" By WordsDoMatter
http://allpoetry.com/poem/5013417
A twitch of my finger that didn’t feel right. A prelude to battles I’m destined to fight.A message my body was attempting to give. Stop speeding through life and learn how to live.Life passes you by when you go way too fast. Things that take time are things that will last. The voice grew stronger and louder each day.I’d speak to my hand, but it wouldn’t obey. This inner-rebellion, this fight for control,a breakdown of mind, of body, and soul.My thoughts were ignore this ridiculous stand, when my foot then decided to join with my hand. What once worked together as a unified team, defiantly mocked the pursuit of my dream.A spiritual turmoil, a conflict had dawned. My body’s left side reluctant to respond.I went to the Doc, to confirm what I felt. A Parkinson’s diagnosis was unjustly dealt.A “woe-is-me” attitude came out for a while. A guilty conviction with no chance for trial.I started to withdraw so others wouldn’t see, this insidious destruction going on inside me.We all have our struggles or demons we face. I’ve learned to live life at a much slower pace. But the mourning is over! I now am confessing, this burden I bear is more of a blessing.I don’t fly through life like I did once before. Enjoying the journey, you see so much more. What I used to condemn, I now “Thank God!”I refuse to be shaken by Satan’s facade.God gave me a purpose, it’s my humble prayer, this might be a blessing to someone somewhere.
This text is about mourning. The writter uses very descriptive words to show how he felt and how her feels now. Mourning is like being in a depression, but not as intense. People often go into mourning when a loved one passes, or something like that. I personally have never been in mourning, but I know people that have. They say that it is extremley hard to overcome sometimes. Hopefully I wont have to deal with such pain for quite some time!
